Firefighters from Crediton and Newton Abbot helped a team from BBC Good Morning Devon to wash listeners' cars to raise money for the Devon Community Foundation this week.

The event was to mark the BBC Radio Devon's 30 birthday this year, each BBC programme has been given the challenge of raising £19.83 (the year in which the station went on air) and double it….every month for the rest of the year.

Michael Chequer from BBC Radio Devon, who was busy washing cars in Crediton, said: "It's been fantastic, I wasn't sure how many people were going to turn up then bang on 10.00 we had our first customers. We had a couple of buckets ready, than thankfully the fire service turned up and they have been superb. I don't think we would be coping if they had not been here. So many thanks to Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service."

One happy customer, Jan Andrews, commented: "I've been in Crediton shopping and thought I'd get my car washed on the way home. I think it is a really good idea and all for a great cause."
