A Bodmin company has worked in partnership with an East Yorkshire firm to develop two state of the art mobile command and control units for the British Transport Police, ahead of the summer Olympics.

Primetech (UK), which specialises in integrated mobile communications, joined forces with Kinetic Special Vehicles to develop the customised vehicle.

Looking ahead to the London games, BTP had identified the need for a new, bespoke vehicle that could meet their exacting requirements.

The CCU was the first to be designed for the police unit in 10 years.

The partners' brief was to provide two tactical Silver Command units suitable to handle all 'civil contingencies' and easily deployed at large scale public events, which began with the New Year's Eve celebrations in London.

Kinetic developed the vehicle structure to house Primetech's communications technology, including computer systems, WiFi, four-camera digital video recording unit with instant playback.

Primetech also installed a roof mounted transportable satellite system enabling real-time voice, data and video information.

BTP fleet manager Graham Tillett said: "We worked hand in hand with both companies to develop a bespoke solution that has met all our tactical, strategic and technological requirements within available budgets.

"We are extremely proud of the resulting CCUs and look forward to seeing them in action."
