Rail services are being severely disrupted in and out of Exeter St David as a result of the heavy rain.

A spokesman for the South West Trains/Network Rail alliance said: "Rain has caused flooding at Honiton and Whimple and a landslip between Axminster and Honiton. As a result, we are currently unable to run any trains between Gillingham and Exeter St Davids in either direction.

"West of England services which normally run between London Waterloo and Axminster/Exeter St Davids will run from London Waterloo to Gillingham. A replacement bus services is now operating, in both directions, between Gillingham and Yeovil Junction calling at Templecombe and Sherborne and between Yeovil Junction and Exeter St Davids, calling only at Axminster and Honiton only. Crewkerne, Feniton, Whimple and Pinhoe stations are unable to be served by trains or road transport due to the extent of the flooding in the area and poor road conditions.

"Currently, it is not possible for South West Trains  customers to use First Great Western services between Exeter and London owing to flooding also affecting the line between Exeter and London Paddington.
