Football fan is freed on appeal
AN Exeter City fan who was sent to prison for trying to take a smoke grenade to a match between the Grecians and Torquay has been freed after an appeal.
Ricky Pengelly, 18, of Ivydale, Exmouth, was jailed for two months and given a six-year football banning order at South Devon Magistrates' court last month. He was stopped while attempting to enter Plainmoor on January 15.
At Exeter Crown Court he successfully appealed against the severity of his sentence. He was given a community order and 100 hours of unpaid work. The banning order was reduced to three years.
