Gemma in Guide trip
EXETER woman Gemma Waugh is preparing to travel across Europe to help celebrate the centenary of the Guide movement.
The 26-year-old is to lead a team of six girls calling themselves the Iceland Muddles in the marathon trek.
The trip will take place over 14 days in July and August and is one of hundreds of events planned nationally to celebrate 100 years of guiding.
All of the team members met while on a Guide camp in Iceland and have set themselves a £1,000 budget to complete their planned challenges, which include learning about the environment and completing community action work. Landmarks will be visited in each country and team members will learn about local culture.
Countries on the route are Austria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Slovakia and Hungary, and the girls will attend a launch ceremony in Paris.
Gemma, who works for Devon County Council, said: "Giving girls the chance to take up experiences like this is what's so great about Guiding."
