Golfer accused of being over limit
TOP Devon golfer Roger Winchester will stand trial over an allegation of drink-driving in Exeter.
Winchester, a former top England amateur golfer, is accused of drink-driving while being more than two times the legal limit in a Rover VRM.
The alleged offence occurred on Topsham Road just before Christmas.
Winchester is charged with consuming so much alcohol that the proportion of it in his breath was 81mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35mcg.
The alleged drink-driving offence occurred on December 18 last year.
The 42-year-old, of Cotlands, Sidmouth, was excused from attending the hearing at Exeter Magistrates' Court yesterday.
Winchester had denied the allegation at an earlier hearing
A magistrates trial date was fixed for June 15.
