Gritters out as Devon drivers warned of big freeze
Drivers are being urged to take extra caution on the roads as temperatures plummet to below freezing. Road gritters were out at 1am and 6am today. Around 20per cent of the network is gritted on those roads which carry 70per cent of the traffic. Drivers warned that with so much water running off from the surrounding land, freezing temperatures could bring extremely icy conditions and they should not assume a road has been treated. Extra caution is urged.
Among roads closed are the A479 at Frogmore due to burst water main; Waterstave Bridge at Bradninch and the Halberton to Sampford Peverell road will be closed due to canal works.
