Grizzly runners battle 20 miles of East Devon countryside
Some 1,800 runners battled the chilly conditions in this year's notoriously tough Grizzly race through the East Devon countryside.
Exmouth’s Tom Mercer came second in the 20-mile off road race, beaten into first place by Hasting Athletic Club’s Jeff Pyrah. Third was Axe Valley Runner Matthew Clist.
Benfleet Running Club's Jez Mancer emerged victorious in the Cub nine-mile race. Second came Andrew Watson, while third over the line was Matthew Atkins.
Second came Andrew Watson, while third over the line was Matthew Atkins. Next came Jeremy Hocking, Wayne Loveridge, Robert Leeke, Nicholas Mancer, Ian Lea, Simon Morgan and David Holt in the top ten.
Around 40 local organisations, from school parents and teachers associations to Scout groups and St John Ambulance, make the event happen. The groups which help out get a donation and a main beneficiary is chosen. Last year it was the Home Nursing Service in Seaton which received £10,000.
The Devon Air Ambulance Trust and the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance also received donations.
This year it the main beneficiary is the Flamingo Swimming Pool in Axminster.
