Group says wake-up to climate change
CLIMATE change campaigners gathered in the city yesterday to deliver a "wake-up call" to politicians.
As part of a flash mob event, which sees people contacted by mobile phone or email to arrive at a specific time and place for a brief protest and then quickly disperse, dozens of people arrived at Exeter's Cathedral Green at 12.18pm to set off alarms on their phones.
The peaceful protest was coordinated by Avaaz, an internet group designed to bring people together to protest about important issues.
A local spokesman for Avaaz said: "People were getting together in public places all round the world for to press our leaders to take action on climate change.
"From Singapore to Sydney and Johannesburg to Buenos Aires, we sounded the alarm, calling for climate action.
"The threat of climate change is at the top of our members' concerns."
