Gruffalo tops most South West's borrowed books chart
The charming tale of a mouse walking through snow-covered woods has proved the biggest hit with children frequenting libraries in the South West.
The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler was the most borrowed book in the regions' libraries during 2011-12.
The book has sold more than 10.5 million copies, has won several prizes for children's literature, and has been developed into plays on both the West End and Broadway.
Data released by Public Lending Right released today to coincide with National Libraries Day revealed the top ten children's books borrowed between July 2011 and June last year.

Number 2 on the list was I am not sleepy and I will not go to bed by Lauren Child.
A spokesman for the PLR office said: "We collate this data and use it to make payments to authors on the basis of how often their books have been lent out." PLR is funded by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and in 2013 the PLR expects to distribute £6.4 million to 23,190 authors at a rate of 6.20 pence per loan.
