Harry puts Heart and Soul into new EP

SINCE performing his first headline show only nine months ago, talented Exeter singer-songwriter Harry Vinnicombe has been enjoying a taste of what the future could bring.

The 18-year-old chose the city's Barnfield Theatre to launch his musical career, and since then has played numerous gigs including summer festival Beautiful Days at Escot and at The Bedford in South London where Ed Sheeran recorded a live CD.

On Twitter, followers include Harry's personal hero, Simply Red singer Mick Hucknall, and a growing army of fans who are listening to Harry's newly released debut EP Heart and Soul.

The five-track album reflects Harry's mixed style of self-penned folk/pop songs and haunting lyrics and guitar pieces, blended with very deep strong elements of blues and soul.

Harry, from Countess Wear, said: "My favourite is the first track, Better Day. It's an electric guitar song which I'm a big fan of and had a big blues guitar solo so it's a favourite to play live. The song's about getting into a relationship and diving in a little bit too soon.

"The album is a real mixture because some songs are upbeat like that one and some are slow acoustic singer-songwriter numbers, and there's also summer songs with big choruses."

The determined and hardworking musician is having to fit in chasing his musical dream with working as a barman at The Sawyer's Arms in Cowick Street, Exeter, and studying for his second and final year at the Exeter Academy of Music and Sound.

Harry, whose grandfather was famous jazz pianist David Jones, said: "I've been working 45 hours plus a week at the moment to pay for a MacBook Pro so I can do some home recording.

"After a brief break from gigging I've got some more gigs coming up in the new year."

In a bid to spread his music to other parts of the country, Harry has no gigs coming up in Exeter in the near future, but he will be playing at Mr Wolfs in Bristol on February 11, and The Elgin in London's Notting Hill on March 14.

"I love getting my guitar and rucksack and going on the train to go off gigging for a couple of days. I'm a very, very independent person and although it can sometimes be lonely, there's something very euphoric about it and gives me so much inspiration to write new songs.

"I don't want fame and I'm not after the money, but I would like some kind of success and respect for my music.

"I see everything I do as a complete blessing and I hope the best is still ahead of me."
