Hayes calls for improvement
EXETER Chiefs skipper Tom Hayes has called for his team to step up their performances in the Heineken Cup ahead of back-to-back fixtures against the Scarlets in Europe's premier rugby competition.
Despite an impressive recent run of results that has seen the Chiefs win their last five games, their debut campaign in the Heineken Cup has not gone to plan so far.
A narrow defeat in their opening game against Leinster was followed by a heavier loss at home to Clermont Auvergne.
Hayes says the competition can be unforgiving and said they need to build on the losing bonus point they have claimed so far.

"It is our first year in the Heineken Cup and we always knew it was going to be tough," said Hayes. "You get into the Heineken Cup and it is the best of Europe – it really is another step up. It is an unforgiving place, if you are not playing at the top of your game.
"We have to put the other games to bed," he added. "We did manage to get a bonus point out of one of them and that gives us something to build on."
