Help for half-marathon competitors
COMPETITORS taking part in the Great West Run can look forward to a special healing treatment after the gruelling half marathon.
Ki Exeter, an alternative health centre based in Longbrook Street, is working with the Exeter Leukemia Fund (ELF), EDP Drug & Alcohol Services and Honeylands Specialist Children's Centre, to treat participants to relaxation and cool-down treatments after their runs. Ki Exeter says the ancient form of healing originates in South Korea and is used to treat a variety of conditions.
It is based on similar principles to acupuncture, but uses sound and touch instead of needles. During treatment, points on the abdomen, arms, legs, back, shoulders and head, are pressed, helping improve circulation and easing aches and pains.
Therapist Claudia Dumons said: "The principles behind Ki can be likened to recharging a battery. We hold all our energy in our abdominal area."
Ki Exeter is also involved with the Exeter Community Initiative as well as St Petrock's homeless centre. The treatment takes less than 15 minutes and recipients are fully clothed.
