Historic estate hosts inaugural food festival
The culinary history of centuries-old Powderham Castle has been told through the estate's inaugural food festival.
More than 2,000 people attended the event, which boasted more than 50 local artisan food producers, demonstrations and live music.
The philosophy of the festival is derived from in a 200-year-old book, an artefact discovered by one of the organisers, television producer and all round foodie, Gabrielle Jackson.
The book revealed details of what was produced and consumed within the estate in years gone by. A host of demonstrations held in the Music Room and the Victorian Kitchen throughout the day reflected the castle's intriguing culinary history adding another dimension to the festival.
