Homes display green systems
TEN Devon homes will be open to the public this weekend to show money-saving green energy systems.
Renewable energy systems will be on display free of charge to show how to save money on electricity and oil and help the environment.
They include solar panels, wind turbines, wood burning stoves, systems for using heat from the ground and solid wall insulation.
Crediton Climate Action (CCA) is organising the Renewable Heat and Energy Open Weekend and the participating homes are in and around the town.
Within a mile of Sandford there will be two homes exhibiting solar hot water and solar electricity generation, a wood pellet stove , solid wall insulation, triple glazing and an organic garden.
At two locations near Cadeleigh will be solar hot water and solar electricity generation systems, a large wind turbine and a home heating system which uses heat stored in the ground.
At Morchard Bishop, there will be a central and water heating system which takes its heat from the air, and at the Beech Hill Community a large log burning boiler, a wind turbine, solar hot water, composting loo, reed bed sewage and a composting scheme will be on view.
At Woolfardisworthy there will be three tours each day of a smallholding with a wind turbine and solar hot water system. In Crediton is a cottage with solid wall insulation and a home with a solar hot water system and a traditional log burner.
