Horse rescued from ditch near Okehampton
At 8.50am today, the Fire Service received a call to a horse stuck in a ditch at Sticklepath, near Okehampton.
Two fire appliances from Okehampton and the specialist rescue team from Barnstaple and Exeter attended.

Upon arrival, fire crews confirmed a sixteen hand horse aged thirty five years which had fallen onto its side into a two metre deep dry ditch.
Fire crews requested the attendance of a heavy duty winching system from Exeter.

The horse was rescued by fire crews using strops, small tools and a local telehandler. The horse was uninjured and left in the care of its owner who was having the animal checked over by a veterinary surgeon.
