3PM: A city man who conducted his own legal defence was today acquitted of raping an elderly woman.

The jury unanimously found George Northam not guilty of rape, within hours of retiring to consider their verdict at Exeter Crown Court.

2PM: The city said an emotional farewell to one of its own as hundreds of mourners turned out to pay their last respects to fallen soldier and police community support officer Mark Marshall.

Army comrades, police officers and residents from across the city joined the 29-year-old serviceman's family to say their goodbyes at his funeral at Belmont Chapel, Western Way.

1PM: Royal Marine Maxwell Wilson has been warned he could face jail for breaking a woman's cheekbone and punching her friend in the mouth in a row in Exeter city centre.

Wilson, 22, pleaded guilty to attacking two women in a late night incident outside BHS, in Fore Street, at Exeter Crown Court.

NOON: Exeter MP Ben Bradshaw has expressed concerns about proposals to sell off a school playing field.

As revealed in the Echo, Devon County Council is considering selling the grass sports pitch behind the school to the Exeter Royal Academy for Deaf Education.

The academy, in Topsham Road, Exeter, proposes to develop new buildings on the former St Nicholas School site in St Leonard's, Exeter.

Samantha, 32, and Lee Andrew, 37, from Countess Wear, are celebrating the recent arrival of triplets Poppy, Daisy and Cody.

10AM: Tributes have been paid to Bernard Bradford from Devon who dedicated almost 40 years of service to the RNLI.

Mr Bradford, 85, from Phear Avenue, Exmouth was a former crew member and station mechanic for the lifesaving charity in the town.
