Humphreys draws level in series with win in latest race

KATHERINE Humphreys won the fourth round of the Brooks Westward Cross-Country League to draw level at the top of the series.

She was the first woman to finish Sunday's race at Westward Ho! and the club's men's team extended their lead in the overall competition.
James Denne attacked the race from the start and finished second, also leaving him second overall.
Jack Bancroft was fifth, Ashley Humphreys sixth, Dave Wilkinson 10th, Howard Bailey 27th and Adam Stobbs 37th.
At the South West Inter-Counties Cross-Country Championships, Rosie Chamberlain was second in the under-17 women's race.
Humphreys and Denne also had fine runs in the senior races, finishing seventh and ninth respectively. Josh Trigwell and Anna Rust both finished sixth in the under-20 races.
Younger athletes to finish in the top 20 in their races were Patrick Livingstone 15th, Kyle Hartnell 16th, Lily Helston 13th, Maddie Roche 14th and Florence Livingstone 19th.
Several Harriers will be representing Exeter & East Devon this Saturday at the Devon Schools' Cross-Country Championships at Eastern Fields, Exeter, from 11am.

Twenty South West Road Runners headed to Dawlish for the 11-mile Oh My Obelisk! on Sunday.
It was a strong day for the club's men, with five finishing inside the top 20. Tim Vialls was the first to finish, coming home eighth in 1hr 14mins 45secs. He was closely followed by Shaun Parkin, ninth, in 1:14.56. Ian Pang was 11th in 1:16.33, Nic Einchcomb 17th in 1:18.47 and David Cameron 18th in 1:19.20.
Other SWRR finishers were: Stephen King 27th in 1:21.41, Richard Westgate 56th in 1:26.37, Matthew Dominey 66th in 1:28.14, Lewis Jones 70th in 1:29.11, Barry Frost 77th in 1:30.10, Isabelle Baraffe 95th in 1:33.20, Andrew Bloor 98th in 1:34.10, Ayse Vahiboglu 104th in 1:35.31, Catherine Hilton 124th in 1:38.31, Vanda Van Der Linden 132nd in 1:40.01, Pip Hayes 158th in 1:44.35, Paul Madge 161st in 1:45.00, Sue Jewell 169th in 1:46.30, Jacqueline Francis 178th in 1:48.06 and Hilary Collins 195th in 1:51.03
Elsewhere on the same day, a group travelled to Westward Ho! in North Devon for the latest round of the Brooks Westward Cross-Country League.
Alexandra Cutts was seventh lady in 20.56 after making her debut for the club in last month's Exeter round of the cross country series.
Karen Cook was 10th woman and first in the female over-50 age group in 21.20, leaving her second in the series standings.
In the men's section, Chris Powell was 51st in 34.30 and is now third in the series in the male over-40 section, Dave Phillips was second in the male over-55 category – and leads the section so far – coming 59th overall in 36.02, Alister Ferguson was 72nd in 38.12, John Kavanagh 73rd in 38.14 and Jim Durston 79th in 39.24.

Four AVRs raced the 11-mile Oh my Obelisk! run, with Eleanor Wood the first home in 1:29.58, winning the over-50 prize.
Geoff Woodward finished in 1:38.30, Steve Reynolds was just behind in 1:39.05 and Mike Giles came home in 1:43.01.
There was a huge turnout for the January AVR handicap races – the first of the 2012 series.
Lawrence Power emerged as the winner from the 50 entrants in the senior race in 20.50, with Emily Hughes second in 37.14, James Guler third in 22.16, Teresa Coates fourth in 29.10 and Simon Radcliffe fifth in 23.53.
May Wood was the winner of the junior race in 16.49, Josh Coates was second in 11.17, Laurence Edgeley third in 12.15, Caitlin Bee fourth in 17.08 and James Knapp fifth in 15.30.
Graham Newton took part in the Cadbury marathon earlier this month on the outskirts of Hobart, Australia, and finished 80th in 3:41.
Diane Newton ran the 5k with the rest of the family – son Adam, daughter-in-law Jen and grandchildren Saskia and Reese – and finished 282nd in 36.47.

Haldon Trail Runners had a brilliant run at the Oh my Obelisk! race on Sunday.
The first HTR home with a new best time for the course was Nathan White in 1:23.55, with Martin McEneny also setting a PB of 1:27.41.
Charlotte Weedon finished in 1:27.49, Paul Clarke in 1:29.49, Nigel Veitch in 1:35.22 and Anthea Whitaker in 1:36.04.
Exmouth Harriers
There are places available for Exmouth Harriers' Fulfords five-mile road race.
The race takes place on Sunday, February 5, starting at 11am near the race HQ at Exmouth Sports Centre, where there are changing and shower facilities.
Entry costs £10 for the flat, two-lap race with a £2 premium for non EA-registered athletes. It costs an extra £2 to enter on the day. The minimum age is 15. People can enter online at www.exmouthharriers.co.uk.
