Hungry Fox Pub
I recently visited the Hungry Fox pub at Broadclyst; which I had heard was under new management; and was so impressed, I wanted everyone to know.

After a brief chat with the Manager (Paula) it became clear that she would do a personal request, so I requested 2 Beef Wellingtons for the following day.
On arrival at the pub for our meal we were warmly welcomed, and they even remembered what I had drunk the day before; I was very impressed.
We were seated at a table of our choosing, and the meal was served. The presentation was superb, with tomato, mushrooms, sauté potatoes, broccoli and carrots, served with the Beef Wellington. We were also given a dish of home made chips to share. The chips were beautifully made, all hand cut, with crispy outsides and soft fluffy middles (and were served piping hot, unlike what I have experienced in many other venues).
The Beef Wellington was out of this world, the steak (and it was real fillet) was cooked to perfection, coated in the most amazing pate, the texture and flavour of which was superb. We were given steak knifes for our meal, but we could have cut the steak with a butter knife as it was so tender, with not an ounce of fat on it, the flavour of which was enhanced by the pate, the flavours mingled in perfect combination. The pastry was also handmade (I discovered on chatting with Paula after the meal) and was again cooked to perfection. To finish off the meal Paula had made her own gravy which was of perfect consistency, neither too thick nor too watery and had a delicious flavour (maybe due to the red wine which she had included in her recipe). To compliment the meal I chose the house Merlot which was incredibly smooth and excellent when you consider the price and the fact that it was the house wine. The price of the meal was very reasonable, especially when you take into account that fillet steak is currently over £42 a kilo, to say nothing of the obvious time and effort that had gone into making this meal perfect in every way.
Overall a really impressive experience, with both waitress and Manager (chef) checking that we were happy with the food and service. I cannot recommend this pub highly enough, the service is excellent, the food outstanding, and Paula is always happy to cater to special requests as long as sufficient notice is given; I just need to think of what to have next time!
