Hunting Act views don't make sense
COLIN Richey's comment that the hunting ban is not working is silly, because if it wasn't, why does he want it repealed? Daft hunting act must be repealed, Points of view, March 7.
If it wasn't working, the hunting community wouldn't worry about it, would they.
I welcomed the hunting ban, and there's no reason that these people can't still have their rides and dress as they have done for centuries, but it doesn't have to end with a bloodthirsty killing.
For Colin to say a lot of foxes get away, what's to say they don't die of stress due to the chase?
It seems to me the hunting community can't enjoy the countryside with their horses and supporters without the bloodletting.
The people in the countryside have a say in what happens in the towns that I live in, so what's wrong with us having a say in what happens in the countryside?
They say we don't know the countryside — well, what do they know about city life?
So swallow your pride, the majority has spoken, get over yourselves and enjoy the countryside without the death of animals.

“Having lived in both city and country I would day that there is far less to "know" about living in the city. It is frustrating for people who live in the countryside to hear people who evidently don't know much about country life expressing views about it.
But there are also a lot of people living in the countryside who don't know much about it either, not all of them recent incomers from urban areas. Many country folk, incomers or otherwise, don't like the idea of hunting, whereas many others see it as part of the country scene. There is also a difference between disliking something yourself and thinking it ought to be banned.
So don't let's persist in seeing the hunting debate as a black-and-white city versus country issue.”
