Hunting devotees are in the minority

THE Echo reported recently that the League Against Cruel Sports had filmed East Devon and Axe Vale hounds hunting in areas where it would be all but impossible for a hunt rider to lay a drag line.

What is more, in the past few weeks several incidents have occurred where hounds have collided fatally with road traffic and trains and I also read of one case in which hounds ran on to a firing range with red flags flying.

This is neither harmless "trail hunting" nor "accidental".

At the same time, field studies have revealed that fox population levels have neither significantly increased nor decreased since the Hunting Act came into force.

I am fairly certain that the great majority of voters would prefer not to have parliamentary time wasted on what they consider a barbaric and outdated idea of sport.

Indeed, Mid Devon has a thriving League Against Cruel Sports Support Group.

Clearly it is time for hunting devotees to accept that we live in a humane-minded society with humane legislation and that it is time for them to drop their regressive plan to revive live animal hunting from the political agenda.

“In any case all trail hunting should be banned.”

“again LACS have provided absolute proof of blatant law breaking and again the pro hunt police ignore it.

“But in that you are saying that the LACS rules the waves in what goes on so what happens to freedom of choice, and to inform you as you are obviously ignorant on the subject it is no always a horse and rider that lays a scent trial, it sometimes is someone on a quad bike or a runner and their task is to make it as true as possible to keep the interest of hounds, if the trial layer just went across open fields then he would have to cover about forty or fifty miles which is clearly out of the question so to go into dificult woodland makes it slower and more interesting for all. lastly I would not trust a thing the LACS says as they are crazy anti most things people.”
