Internet revolutionising the world of auctions
Piers Motley, Exmouth
This year's sales highlights have all been down to the internet and how we promote the lots entrusted to us to sell, with as much as 58% of the lots selling online or to phone bidders who have found them through the internet.

Clockwise from above: R Lalique, Khedive box, £1,050; 1937 specimen coins, £4,200; WWI medals, £4,900; Bermudan watercolours, £66,000; Chinese ivory fan, £2,200; Carden Terry Cork sauceboat, £1,000; real tennis racket, £3,200
Jewellery sales have been very strong this year, with many lots going to private buyers and more to London and continental buyers. Other good successes have come in the glass and ceramics sections, where we are building a rapidly-growing regular client base who always register to bid in our live online sales. Other highlights have been in medals and stamps.
The highlight this year was a group of Bermudan watercolour sketches that sold to Maggs Bros in London after determined bidding from a lady from Bermuda who was present in the room. The hammer fell at £66,000 (including buyer's premium).
