Jess the spaniel is the ultimate sheepdog
Jess the spaniel may have been bred for finding and retrieving game on the shooting field.
But she is more at home as a sheepdog, helping out with the lambs in her own special way.

No spilt milk... Jess, the springer spaniel sheepdog with a bottle of milk feeding an orphaned lamb – called Shaun PICTURE: Richard Austin
Jess, a ten-year-old springer spaniel, has been trained by her owner Louise Moorhouse to feed the orphaned lambs by holding the milk bottle in her mouth.
Louise, who farms on the edge of Dartmoor, said the helpful spaniel has always wanted to carry things around in her mouth, including all sorts of feeding buckets for her flock of sheep.

She said: "Jess has been around sheep all her life and she is not at all frightened of the large ewes, they even give her a belly rub which Jess loves."
Because she was so good with the flock, Louise decided to see if Jess had the patience to feed the lambs with a bottle.
And after very little practice she now has a job to get the eager dog put the bottle down.
"It is very funny when she runs across the field gripping the bottle and squirting the milk everywhere," said Louise.
"Sometimes she gives me a look that says she's getting fed up with this, but she loves it really."
