Jobs boost after Devon firm lands Crossrail contract
A contract to supply water monitoring equipment to the £15bn Crossrail scheme to build a new rail link across London has meant recruitment for Okehampton-based Ashridge Engineering.
The firm, which employs 12 people, has taken on an apprentice with plans to recruit another staff member later this year.
The business, based on the North Road Industrial Estate, won a contract to supply 60 of its Hydroguard units, which monitor the noise, flow and pressure of underground water pipes, activating an alarm if unusual activity, such as a leak, is detected.
The business designs and manufactures products for the water and electricity sectors.

Its clients include most of the UK’s water companies including South West Water and Thames Water.
Ashridge is currently awaiting approval from the National Grid for a range of its electricity products.
Around 25 per cent of its products are currently exported, with distributors in Australia, Malaysia and Africa.
“The business started out very small and about six years ago it moved to a factory in Okehampton and it has just been growing and growing ever since,” said managing director Alan Orchard.
