Kirton win round one
UNDER-16
Tiverton 3 Sidmouth 26
SIDMOUTH took advantage of the extra man following a sin-binning to run in two tries to settle the outcome of this match.
Tiverton started slowly and the visitors were soon two tries to the good. The home side replied with a penalty from Callum Stone but they found themselves 12-3 down at the break having been unable to make the most of the chances they created. A lack of discipline from Tiverton after the break led to a player being sent to the sin-bin and Sidmouth took full advantage, running in two tries in the matter of minutes. Tiverton dug deep and created some decent scoring chances but were unable to convert their pressure into points. Mark Aldworth, Aiden Drew and Andrew Bennett all had decent games for Tiverton.
UNDER-15
Crediton 20 Tiverton 0
CREDITON scored an early try in this game but Tiverton responded with some hard tackles and more aggressive running.
Some outstanding play by the three new players in the squad, Aaron Young, Alex Takel and Tom Turner, meant that Tiverton remained in the game throughout. Connor Stone and Elliot Howells controlled play well with well-placed kicks and the team are looking forward to welcoming Crediton for the return fixture this weekend. Hayden Eaton and Harry Charteris did well stepping up from the under-14s.
Tiverton are looking for players. Training is on Tuesdays at 6:30pm, with the first three sessions free for new players. For more details, call Olly Chanin on 07894 270488.
Devon Junior Cup
Crediton 5 Exeter Saracens 9
THE home side may have won this contest by one try to nil but it was the penalty count that was crucial in a tight game. Saracens kicked two first-half penalties and were 9-0 up until Crediton, well led by Josh Pike, responded with a try, which resulted from some phased rucking — Henry Nuthall setting up Ben Wonnacott for the try. The back row of Wonnacott, Phillips and Somerwill caused problems as Credy dominated the latter stages of the game.
UNDER-10
South Molton 10 Crediton 50
CREDITON continued their run of form with a 50-10 win at South Molton side. Ben Rodd scored four tries, scrum-half Conrad Saunders and fly-half Owen Twigg scored three apiece and centre Dan Lyons and Travis Baker also scored tries.
