GUARDIANS of Cullompton parkland have been labelled "undemocratic" for a political manoeuvre aimed at saving it from being turned into a new relief road.

The Cullompton Community Association (CCA) hopes Devon County Council will accept its request to reclassify parts of the CCA Fields, which lie to the east of the town, in an attempt to block the £20m eastern relief road proposal.

District planners believe the plot is the only suitable location for a bypass to improve the town centre shopping environment and air quality by reducing traffic congestion and pollution.
