LEGAL eagles have decided to raise money for Exeter's West of England School and College for young people with little or no sight.

Members of the Junior Lawyers Division Devon & Somerset, part of the Law Society which represents junior lawyers in the region, voted for the school to be their official charity partner for 2012.

Natalie Bett, charity secretary for the JLD, said: "I am so thrilled with our decision to elect the West of England School as our charity of the year – we were eager to work with a local, hard-working charity and it ticked all of the boxes and more.

"The school is an inspirational organisation that provides invaluable support for so many children. The committee is really looking forward to working with the school in the year ahead and we have some great fundraising ideas in the pipeline."

The school, in Topsham Road, provides specialist education, care and therapy for more than 100 children and young people who are blind or have other visual impairments.

Many of the students have additional needs such as autism and cerebral palsy.

Caroline Burkie, fundraiser for the school, said: "We are really excited about being able to give our 2012 fundraising projects a real kick start thanks to the members of the Junior Law Division voting for us."
