IN reply to Mr G R Holwill's criticism of me regarding hunting, Points of view, March 10, I relish the fact in a free country that we all have our own points of view on certain subjects.

Nothing is more emotive than hunting. I abhor cruelty and violence but I try to put everything in perspective. I find the violence and cruelty to our troops serving in Afghanistan or stationed in Northern Ireland of far more concern than a few foxes and stags being chased across our countryside — most, as I said, evading the hunts.

And as far as the police are concerned, I also stand by my previous remarks that they have far more pressing duties than worrying about hunting.

And of course, I offer no answer to closing perceived loopholes in the law — that is for far bigger brains than mine to decide.

Mr Holwill, I understand your point of view and would fight in your corner for you to express it.

So let's agree to disagree!
