Likely Lad's now a boy growing up
ALTHOUGH he will always be associated with the popular TV series, there's a lot more to Rodney Bewes than The Likely Lads.
He's at Torrington's Plough Arts Centre on Friday, March 22, in one-man show A Boy Growing Up, a series of tales by Dylan Thomas.
His first major film role was as Tom Courtenay's friend Arthur in John Schlesinger's Billy Liar. Rodney also played Flute to Sir Ralph Richardson's Bottom in A Midsummer Night's Dream.
The actor – who lives for part of the year in Cornwall – says: "In 1954 I went to a memorial recital for Dylan Thomas and heard Michael Horden recite 'Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night'. I was 15. On the same bill were C. Day Lewis, Sybil Thorndike, Peggy Ashcroft, and the Welsh actor and playwright Emlyn Williams.
