The first is at Exeter Northcott Theatre on Saturday, January 12, and is energetic comedy Fhlip Fhlop – a mixture of witty dialogue, slapstick, laughter, breakdance, beatbox and DJing.

Two painter-decorators are doing a job in a friend's flat, but in traditional slapstick manner, things go wrong. In a dynamic display of one-upmanship, they compete to out-do each other with moves essentially unchanged from the time of the Marx Brothers.

The Northcott is also hosting the second warm-up gig, Alaska, featuring the characters of Bear Grylls, Ray Mears, Angels, Myrtle Hoover, his wife and children, a whole host of forest wildlife, film, firelights, shadows and an impressive soundtrack.

During the festival itself, the city will welcome a host of names from the world of comedy including Tony Law at Exeter Phoenix on Thursday, January 31.

Known for his highly surreal material and delivery, and 1950s Americana style of dress and Viking style of hair, Tony is bringing his five star, Edinburgh Festival sell-out show Maximum Nonsense to the city.
