MATCH-WINNER Richard Logan says bearing the brunt of some pre-match banter made him determined to score against Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday.

The Exeter City substitute found himself on the receiving end of a soaking before the game, when his former Peterborough United teammate and current Daggers captain Mark Arber squirted water in his face as the two sides emerged from the players' tunnel at St James's Park.

But it was Logan who had the last laugh as he came off the bench to score an 87th-minute winner, out-jumping Arber to head home at the far post and seal a 2-1 win for the hosts.

The striker revealed: "Before the game I was waiting for the teams to come out of the tunnel and he splashed water in my face.

"I don't think I deserved that, but that's what happens when you mess with me – I punished him in the end."

Earlier Arber had looked on course to bag the bragging rights over his old friend, as he set up the goal which saw Dagenham take the lead through Romain Vincelot.

However, the visitors' hopes of moving further away from the relegation zone were dashed when Matt Taylor equalised for City from David Noble's free-kick, before Logan got a decisive second.

The strike moves the former Ipswich Town trainee on to 11 goals for the season, but Logan concedes it will be hard to reach his self-imposed target of 15 before the end of the campaign.

"I think a draw would have been a fair result – they had a few chances to win and I thought we would hold on to get the draw, so to get the three points was a great result for us," he said. "I have 11 league goals now, I'm well pleased with that. It will be tough to hit that target (of 15 goals) as there are only six games left, but we will see.

"As long as we keep winning, that's the main thing."

Logan has been a regular starter for the majority of the season, but he lost his place to John O'Flynn following last month's defeat to Yeovil Town.

The 29-year-old says he does not begrudge the Irishman nicking his spot, saying the summer signing from Barnet fully deserves to get the nod at the moment.

But Logan is hopeful his goal against Dagenham will help his case to be reinstated to the starting XI.

"The last game we played when we lost, I didn't play too well and I got highlighted in the DVD during the week," Logan said. "John's come in and played well. I deserve to be on the bench at the moment and have to work hard on the pitch to try and get back in.

"John deserves to start in front of me, he has been amazing since he has come here. We are all friends so I never begrudge anyone starting because I want everyone to do well."
