Motorists faced disruption at rush-hour yesterday when a lorry overturned on the North Devon link road.

The articulated tanker was carrying 20 tonnes of Molasses, a honey-like substance made when cane or beet sugar is processed, when it tipped over on the A361 at Bolham roundabout.

Emergency services, including fire crews from Wellington and Taunton, were called to the scene at 4.48pm.

The driver was still in the tanker when emergency services arrived.

Paramedics assessed his condition before crews removed him from the vehicle.

His injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Police confirmed the incident blocked the road on the Barnstaple side of the A361.

Fire crews used environmental packs to stem the flow of Molasses leaking from the vehicle.

“So are they going to collect them all up and put the bums back on the moles?”
