MP alerted to postal scam
POST Office workers have alerted Devon MP Richard Younger-Ross to a scam involving a fictitious address in his constituency.
During visits to sorting offices in Dawlish, Teignmouth and Newton Abbot, Mr Younger-Ross learned how workers there are receiving letters for the fake address, in Bishopsteignton.
It is part of a plan by beggars to make them look as if they are travellers at airports who have had their wallets and purses stolen.
People who are taken in by the story and give money are given the address in Bishopsteignton to get their money back.
Royal Mail is receiving a number of these letters every month. The police and the British Airports Authority have been informed.

“This is a pretty basic scam. Not really up there with the best, such as 'selling the Eiffel Tower' or 'TV Licencing'. But you've gotta start somewhere I guess.”
