Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service received a call this morning from a recycling plant at Greendale Barton, Woodbury Salterton, near Exeter. The caller indicated that a large pile of wood in the open had caught fire.

Two fire appliances, one from Greenbank and one from Topsham, were mobilised.  A water bowser from Danes Castle and an incident support unit from Crediton also attended.

On arrival, crews found approximately 400 tonnes of wood recycling materials alight.  On site plant machinery was being used to create a fire break and a misting system was in use.  Crews also used 2 main jets. Another fire appliance from Exmouth attended for its compressed foam capability.

As of Sunday afternoon crews are still working to extinguish the fire using jets and mechanical diggers.
