Man guilty of racist attack
A MAN has pleaded guilty to racially abusing an East Devon kebab shop owner and throwing a rock through his window in a "targeted, premeditated and deliberate" attack.
At Exeter Magistrates Court, Marc Carpenter, 32, from Broad Street, Ottery St Mary, accepted the charge of racially aggravated criminal damage on July 1.
The court heard that since he moved to the town, there had been allegations Carpenter had targeted the owner of the Charcoal Grill kebab shop, Omar Akbulut.
Ann Hampshire, prosecuting, said on the night of the incident, in the early hours of July 1, Carpenter walked past the restaurant on several occasions, at one time making a throwing gesture to Mr Akbulut.

The court heard that Carpenter went into the London Inn where he was described as being drunk at about 11pm.
Ms Hampshire said the defendant told the landlord he was going to put a brick through the kebab shop window and used a racially derogatory description to explain why he wanted to commit the offence.
She said: "Shortly afterwards the defendant threw a brick through the window, which completely smashed."
Defence solicitor Stephen Nunn did not address the court ahead of sentencing, which will take place on January 28.
