Man released on bail after partially sighted woman punched in head during Exeter mugging

A 28-year-old man has been released on bail following the robbery of a partially sighted woman in Exeter City Centre on Thursday afternoon.

The vulnerable woman was punched in the head and fell to the ground during the robbery on Little Southernhay Lane, a footpath that leads from the top of the South Street/Western Way junction and runs beside the Southgate Hotel.

    The incident came just before 12.30pm in a footpath that leads from the top of the South Street/Western Way junction

The culprit stole the woman’s phone and punched her in the head after leaping from a wall, leaving the victim needing medical attention at the RD&E.

A police spokesman, appealing for witnesses, said: “This appears to have been an completely unprovoked attack.”

The suspect is described as being a white man in his thirties, wearing a denim jacket and blue hoody.

A 28 year old man arrested in connection with this incident has been released on police bail until 16th April pending further enquiries.
