Marines collect 30 sacks of rubbish during litter pick on Woodbury Commons
ROYAL Marines recruits from Lympstone Commando Training Centre collected 30 sacks of rubbish following a litter pick on the East Devon Pebblebed Heaths.
As part of Exercise Woodbury Sweep, recruits removed debris from Royal Marine training exercises and collected sacks of litter left behind on the conservation area by visitors.
The heathland on Woodbury Common has been used by the Royal Marines for training since 1939 and the start of World War Two when the needs of the war required the Royal Marines to expand.
Since then the common has provided ideal terrain for integral basic-skills training, with all recruits now briefed on its conservation importance by the Pebblebed Heaths Conservation Trust.
