MARK Whetnall won round one of the league, when only 15 anglers turned up in the cold conditions at KiaOra.

Only nine anglers caught any fish, with Whetnall coming out on top with his catch of nine carp for 35lb 12oz to take the 10 league points, including a big bonus for the golden peg.

The runner-up was Dave Walton, who caught five carp for 21lb 6oz and eight league points.

Completing the frame was Barry Lucas with three carp for 13lb 8oz and six league points. The second section was won by Gary Thornton with five small carp for 10lb 10oz.

Mark Allred from Exeter opted for a "normals" only ticket and had three fish for 4-2.
