Michelmores Charity Run raises more than £30,000
More than 750 runners took part in the 5K charity event on Tuesday, despite the poor weather, with roughly £30,000 raised for charity. The route started at Exeter Quay and finished at the Double Locks pub, with celebrations taking place throughout the evening for the runners including a jazz band and refreshments. The race was planned to start at 6:40 pm but had to be postponed due to some arriving late because of traffic.
The results were announced on Wednesday morning with the winner, Nathaniel Lane, running the distance in 00:15:47 as part of the Michelmores Business club. Second place went to Stephen Buckley who finished just one second behind Mr Lane and third place was Simon Longthorpe who finished in 00:16:05.

Kevin Boland, who ran as part of the Charles Company club dressed as a banana, said: "It was really good fun, there is a few of us in fancy dress. I don't think the rain mattered that much, it is for charity and its really impressive how many people turned up." Other fancy dress spotted on the run included an Indian on his horse and two toy soldiers, both pictured in our gallery.
The Michelmores Charity run was first held in 2000 and a total of over £220,000 has been raised so far for local charities attracting sponsorships from a wide range of businesses. The run costs £20 to enter with individuals and teams welcome to take part and prizes awarded for the first to finish and those who raise the most money. Runners are provided with t-shirts, the first group wearing red and the second wearing yellow, and are advised to run at their own speed.
