Misunderstanding of Hunting Act
ONCE again Giles Bradshaw has misconstrued the Hunting Act 2004 (Letters, October 28, Deer management best left to hunt).
Mr Bradshaw quotes a statement made several years ago by the Exmoor National Park Authority: "Should legislation be introduced to ban hunting with hounds, it is essential that adequate arrangements are in place to ensure the continued conservation and management of red deer herds on Exmoor."
The Hunting Act 2004 does not ban hunting with hounds, but it bans hunting with dogs for sport. There is, therefore, no need for Mr Bradshaw to worry about this matter.
It is, of course, unlawful for hunters to kill stags for fun.
Echo readers will be shocked to learn that, according to Mr Bradshaw: "Trophy hunters are interested in a fine head and set of antlers which can sell for up to £1,000".
