Mongrels come from behind to see off title rivals

MOULDER'S Mongrels edged closer to the Tiverton & District League Division 1 title with a 6-3 win over close rivals Queen's Head A.

However, the league leaders did not have it all their own way, with the Queens taking a 3-2 lead before the Mongrels won four-in-a-row to clinch victory.

Aldo's Hounds moved up to second place in the table after a 6-3 win over Hare & Hounds B. Racehorse made light work of Barley Mow A, winning 7-2.

Racehorse secured the points in the singles, with the score at 5-1.

The final match saw the upset of the week, with Con Club A beating in-form Half Moon 5-4.

With Moon 4-3 up, Con Club secured the next two doubles and the match. The final frame was won by captain Sam Cottrell and Anthony Hamelett.

In Division 2, Queen's Head B cemented their position at the top of the table with a 6-3 win over White Horse Exiles.

Exiles were 3-2 up but the Queen's won the next four frames to secure victory.

Seven Stars Superstars beat Hairy Dog 5-4. They were 4-1 up but needed an excellent clearance from Andy Stone, who was partnered by Captain Jon Burd, to win it. Seven Stars won a one-sided match against bottom-of-the-table Full Metal Heathcoat 7-2. In the other match played, Any Pub Will Do beat Con Club Wildcats 6-3.
