JAMIE Cureton scored twice as Exeter City beat Morecambe 3-0 away to boost their League Two promotion chances.

It was Exeter City's 10th win on the road this season, which breaks a club record and moves them back up to fourth spot in the table - a point behind third-placed Burton Albion with a game in hand.

Cureton opened the scoring shortly after half-time when the impressive Tommy Doherty slid a pass into him and he fired past Barry Roche. His second goal came in stoppage time, with a powerfully hit drive, to put the icing on what was an excellent performance from the Grecians.

Morecambe created he better chances early on as Chris Holroyd fired into the side netting and then Kevin Ellison headed another good chance wide.

City, who were missing the injured Alan Gow and Matt Oakley, created their best chance near the end of the half when Craig Woodman played an excellent cross field ball to Cureton. However, Roche was quickly off his line to snub out the danger.

After half-time the game belonged to City. Lewis Alessandra missed an glorious opportunity for the home side early on in the second half, but after that it was the visitors who were on top.

Captain Danny Coles curled an effort narrowly wide, before Scot Bennett headed just over from and Arron Davies cross.

Cureton then gave City the lead in the 61st minute. Davies doubled that advantage five minutes from the end as great hold up play from Mark Molesely saw him feed a pass to Jimmy Keohane who crossed low for the City midfielder to rifle a shot into the back of the net.

However City were not finished there, as Cureton scored an excellent third goal in stoppage time - his 18th of the season.

  • In the Express and Echo's score prediction competition, in association with Exeter City FC and BetButler, nobody correctly guessed a 3-0 win to Exeter City to collect a pair of tickets, in the Big Bank, for City's next home game, and to be entered into a draw to win a signed shirt at the end of the season. However, there will be another chance to win on Friday if you can correctly guess the score of Exeter City's match against Accrington. Keep your eyes out on the Exeter Express and Echo website later in the week for your chance to enter.
