Drivers have been warned that their speed is being monitored in roadworks after some were caught doing 70mph in a 40 zone. The limit is in force around junction 29 of the M5, and mobile enforcement teams are working along the A30 in both directions. Councillor Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council Cabinet Member for Highways, said some drivers had "completely ignored" the limits. "Luckily there haven't been any incidents but there is always a potential that if people are driving too fast they are not only putting the site workers at risk but also themselves and other road users."

“Cllr Hughes is one to talk about " completely ignored" he ignores the fact the he has ignored the thousands of illegal tickets issued and proved, but repayment has not been forthcoming for motorists.”
