Exeter Express and Echo

MANSONS guitar shop in Exeter is one of the first businesses in the country to offer a Government-backed music retail apprenticeship.

The store in McCoys Arcade, Fore Street, has joined forces with the Academy of Music and Sound, in Coombe Street, to pioneer the Music Instrument Retail Training Scheme (Mirtas) music retail apprenticeship.

The Music Industries Association has teamed up with Academy of Music and Sound to create the country's first retail apprenticeship designed to train the next generation of music industry professionals.

Music shops have long been seen as a natural starting point for a career in the industry.

It is being run nationwide and so far more than 50 music retailers and distributors are on board, offering places to young, motivated individuals.
