Naming dogs doesn't make hunting okay
I FEEL my and other readers intelligence has been insulted by Melissa Phillips' letter, Day out changed my view on hunting, Echo, October 17.
It is obvious to anyone by her letter that she has never been anything but pro-hunting.
Does she really think that anyone reading believes otherwise?
Her letter is complete nonsense. She talks about how the hounds were happy doing their work and that the huntsman knew the names of all 71 hounds.
Well I don't care if it is 1,000 hounds, it doesn't change the fact that it is extremely cruel, barbaric and outdated.
Perhaps the huntsman calls out the names of each hound just before he shoots them when they are no longer useful for hunting.
She finishes her letter by saying anti-hunt people should try it as they might enjoy it.
I don't need to as I couldn't do it anyway and know right from wrong.
I have read many letters on this page regarding hunting over many years now from many different local people and what is clear is that roughly three out of four are against it, which is consistent with the national figure of 75 per cent who are against it!

“I think your figure of 75% is wrong. I don't care where it comes from, ask a certain question, in a certain location and you are likely to get the answer you want!
Even if it were right that means there is 25% in favour of hunting. Should we not be protecting our minorities and their culture, tradition and rights, or is that just for minorioties other than hunters>?!!!”
