New cycle path section opened in Axe Valley
A NEW section of an East Devon cycle route has opened.
The £390,000 off-road section of the Stop Line Way from Cloakham in Axminster to Weycroft opened in December.

The Stop Line Way is part of the National Cycle Network Route 33, and when complete the 70-mile trail will link the Bristol Channel to Lyme Bay, passing through Devon, Somerset, and Dorset. The Stop Line Way is being funded and built by a partnership of local authorities in the three counties, with the support of cycle charity, Sustrans.
The 1,000 metre section through the Axe Valley was constructed over 13 weeks by contractor Aggregate Industries Ltd. Previous sections of the trail which have been completed are Trafalgar Way in December 2009 and Alder Carr under the A35 into Kilmington parish in September 2011.

Land negotiations are currently on-going on the next planned length from Seaton to Colyford, which received planning consent in September 2011.
In Devon, the route stretches from Seaton Promenade to the county boundary and is a largely traffic-free footway and cycleway.
Cllr Andrew Moulding, county councillor for Axminster, said: "This is another important piece in the jigsaw as far as the completion of the Stop Line Way is concerned."
