THE new head of a Tiverton primary school says he hopes to replicate the significant improvements he oversaw at his previous school when he starts his new role after Easter.

Simon Green is currently head of Buckland Brewer Primary, a small village primary, and having been appointed head of Tidcombe Primary School says he has big plans to drive the school forward.

Mr Green said: "Everything has got to be focused on children's health, happiness, interpersonal skills and quality of learning.

"There is a real energy and commitment among the staff and a wonderful ambience of care at the school, which I was aware of from the outset.

"Personally, I am very keen on sporting activities and the great outdoors, and I am pleased the school has already got good extra-curricular activities and residential trips and I am keen to celebrate that and continue it going forward."

Mr Green said his first term would give him a chance to assess the school and draw out what the shared goals for the school are.

He is keen to share his ideas for the school with parents.

The 41-year-old, who lives in Budleigh Salterton and has children aged 10, 12 and 14, has an unusual background for a headteacher.

"My background is in North Sea Oil," he said.

"I was doing a well paid job, but I didn't really feel it was fulfilling. So I retrained as a teacher and I love it. It is the best job in the world."
