Nobby and Richard reach final of Winter Foursomes
NOBBY Clarke and Richard Colman reached the final of the men's Winter Foursomes at Tiverton after a 2 & 1 win over club captain Colin Carey and Peter Garnsworthy on Saturday.
All-square after the eighth, Clarke and Colman made their decisive move by winning the 9th, 10th and 11th to go three up. They lost the 14th but won the 15th after Garnsworthy threw his club in anger and it stuck up a tree. Carey and Garnsworthy kept their hopes alive by winning the 16th but a half in bogeys on the 17th ensured Clarke and Colman progressed. Clarke will meet his brother Graham in the final if he and Mike Cottrell win their semi against Colin Baker and Bob Pincombe on Saturday.
Clarke and Cottrell pulled off a surprising 5 & 4 victory over Martin Selby and Neil Carthew in the quarter-finals at the weekend.
Tiverton have been handed a tricky tie at Axe Cliff in the second round of the national Mail on Sunday Classic. Tiverton, who won 4-1 at Taunton and Pickeridge last time out, must play the match by Sunday, March 21.
Downes Crediton's Barry Austin won the 10th round of the Devon PGA Winter Series at Churston. He carded 68 to finish a shot ahead of Okehampton's Ashley Moon. Tiverton's David Curl finished sixth on 73. Austin, who leads the order of merit table, looks favourite to retain his crown.
