Phil Taylor first in Premier League Darts after draw at Westpoint in Exeter
Phil 'The Power' Taylor is top of the pile in the Premier League Darts table after a thrilling 6-6 draw against James Wade at a packed Westpoint Arena in Exeter on Thursday evening.
Taylor looked like securing maximum points as he took a 6-4 lead over Wade. But Wade showed fantastic guts in a gritty and determined comeback to draw level on the night and avoid a 14th straight defeat against The Power.
Taylor - who only leads the standings on leg difference - will be hoping for better when he takes on Gary Anderson in Nottingham next week.
The most impressive showing of the evening at a raucous Westpoint came from Robert Thornton, who set a new Premier League Darts average record for the season with 109.33 in his 7-2 win over fellow Scotsman Gary Anderson.

That result leaves Anderson in the bottom two and facing relegation unless he dramatically improves, while Thornton has a mouthwatering clash against Wade at the Capital FM Arena.
Second-placed Michael van Gerwen took a little time to find his feet, but he was ruthless once he hit his stride in his 7-2 victory over Andy Hamilton, scoring five 180s in the process.
Wes Newton managed a first Premier League Darts victory as he overcame struggling Adrian Lewis 7-3. Lewis is still without a win this season and is staring relegation in the face. Things do not become any easier for Lewis, who faces the on-form van Gerwen next.
Simon Whitlock hit six 180s but that was still not enough to overcome Dutchman Raymond van Barneveld, who went up to third with a 7-3 win.
The popular 'Barney', who averaged 99.47, faces Hamilton next, while Whitlock plays Newton.
