Pirates invade Tiverton street to celebrate volunteer week
PHOENIX Lane in Tiverton was invaded by pirates last week, bringing the busy street almost to a standstill.
To celebrate National Volunteer Week (NVW), 20 charities set up stalls to recognise the work of local people who help out with vital charities around Mid Devon.

Volunteer Centre coordinator Sue Snell explained: "This year is the 25th anniversary of NVW and to celebrate we have decided on a pirate theme.
"We thought it would be good fun and chance to dress up in colourful clothes.
"Volunteers are often unsung heroes who quietly do good work, not expecting any fuss or thanks.
"This week is an opportunity to express our gratitude for all they do.
"Mid Devon would be a far worse place if it was not for these kind-hearted people who help in so many different areas."
